INVITATION:
UU/UCU MOOT COURT 2009

Dear Student,

The UCSA Law Committee is proud to invite UCU students to take part in the UCU/UU Moot Court Competition in cooperation with the UU Law College, taking place on November 20, 2009 in the Utrecht Court house.

The applications for the competition are open until Thursday, September 17. The case will deal with public international law for which knowledge of international law is an asset, but not a requirement. Teams will consist of two participants from UCU and two participants from UU Law College. In order to give you the opportunity to gain better knowledge of and experience in Moot Courts, the successful candidates are invited to an introductory event together with Professor Dotinga of Utrecht University on September 24, 2009. During this introductory meeting you will meet the organizers and fellow participants, hear about the case and have your chance to ask questions. Teams also have the opportunity to seek consultancy during the preparations of their memorials.

Not only will you have the chance to practice argumentation/public speaking skills, but also to gain experience for a possible future legal career, a unique opportunity to meet real life judges, as well as an insight into Moot Court proceedings. The Moot Court will culminate in a pleading that takes place at the Utrecht Court house on November 20. We will start the day with a lunch provided by the Court, and move on with the pleadings until late afternoon. Afterwards we will provide you with dinner and the opportunity to mingle with the participants, organizers, judges, and lawyers.

If you want to participate, please send a short motivation statement before September 17, 2009 to M.S.Jaakkola@students.uu.nl where you also indicate your field within law (if applicable). We can only accept 8 participants from UCU and might have to do a selection. If you have any questions, we are more than happy to answer them.

With kind regards,

UCSA Law Committee Board 2009-2010, University College Utrecht

LawCo Moot Court

Dear Student,

As its main event for this year, the UCSA Law Committee is organizing a Moot Court Competition which will take place in September 2009, and with this letter we would like to invite you to take part in the competition.

The applications for the competition are open until Thursday, February 19. The case will deal with public international law for which knowledge of international law is an asset, but not a requirement. Teams will consist of two participants from UCU, as well as one participant from Utrecht University. In order to give you the opportunity to gain better knowledge of and experience in Moot Courts, you will have the opportunity to attend two workshops in order to prepare for the Moot Court. The workshops are divided in two parts, of which the first one explicitly deals with the memorials, and the second part with pleading. Teams have the opportunity to consult professors (as given by LawCo) to assist them and meet judges who are familiar with Moot Court proceedings.

Not only will you have the chance to practice argumentation/public speaking skills, but also to gain experience for a possible future legal career, a unique opportunity to meet real life judges, as well as an insight into Moot Court proceedings.

If you want to participate, please send a short motivation statement before February 19 to M.S.Jaakkola@students.uu.nl where you also indicate your field within law (if applicable). After the application period you will be invited to an information meeting on February 26, during which teams will be formed and an overview of proceedings given. During this meeting you will find out everything you should know about the competition, as well as get acquainted with the case. Thereafter you will start working on memorials and attend workshops before the actual pleading in September.

With kind regards,

UCSA Law Committee Board
